Happy New Year!!
We spent the last hours of 2013 house-hopping in Clintonville with our good friends. I had been saving a special bottle of Woodchuck in my fridge for such a special occasion. This one was Woodchuck Cellar Series in Smoked Apple.
It was $4.99 at my favorite carry-out. (22oz bottle) Here is the write up from Woodchuck: “Woodchuck Cellar Series Smoked Apple is a full-bodied deep amber cider featuring crisp apple notes and hints of vanilla on an applewood smoked backdrop. A well-balanced, limited run cider that is perfect for the cooler days ahead.”
Three of us tried this one. Me, my husband and our friend Matt.
My first thought was campfire. I took my first taste and the smoke stayed with me from start to finish. I did not find it to have a sweet apple taste because there was too much smoke.
This is a slow sipping cider. Not refreshing, just interesting in a weird way.
My husband said it tasted like eating a plate of smoked gouda cheese and crackers. He probably would not buy it again.
Matt, our GFTT guest reviewer, had the following to say. “It’s really good in small doses, but I wouldn’t drink more than 12oz at any sitting. It’s not a “drinking beer” — more of a savory, sipping beer.”
Overall, I would not pick this one up again. It was good to try once and it was fun to share it with a friend.
If you like eating apples dipped in ashtray this is the cider for you!
