Sometimes I buy things based on healthy buzz-words. When you see something that says Gluten Free, Organic, NON GMO it deserves a second look. While I was out shopping at TJ Maxx/Homegoods, I found Wholesome Chow Organic Gluten Free Hi-Protein Pancake Mix. I had it in and out of my shopping cart. I was on the fence since it was super expensive. ($9.99) I figured I need to eat more protein, so the super fit and heathy version of me decided to buy it. (I am not that fit or overly healthy, but marketing got the best of me)
I made these pancakes twice, so this is a pretty fair review. Sometimes healthy does not taste that great.
The first time I made them, my son would not take a second bite. I even added a few chocolate chips to his batch. He was not a fan. He said they did not have any taste. He was right.
Since they were $10, I am going to use the entire bag. I made them again today. I used almond milk and eggs in this batch. No big change since the last time I made them. They are very thick and filling, but they really do lack flavor. There is one positive. They really did fill me up. My husband’s main critique was that they tasted healthy. That could be a good thing, but he meant it the other way. I have tasted better gluten free pancakes. Get these only if you strictly follow an gluten free organic, non GMO diet.
